Dr. Mai Pho – New Chief Medical Officer for the IDPH

Dr. Mai Pho has been selected as the new Chief Medical Officer for the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Dr. Pho is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Infectious Diseases and Global Health at the University of Chicago.  She was previously an International Health Clinical Research Fellow in the Center for Global Health at the Feinberg School of Medicine.
Her work seeks to improve clinical outcomes and health policy surrounding a variety of diseases, including HIV, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis.  Dr. Pho’s research involves decision analytic modeling and economic evaluation to optimize disease screening, treatment, access to care, and shared decision making, particularly for marginalized populations.
She received a Bachelors of Science at Brown University and a medical degree at the University of Massachusetts.  She completed an internal medicine residency at Yale University, followed by an infectious diseases fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center during which time she also received a Masters in Public Health at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
