New Report Weighs the Evidence for Diabetes Prevention Programs

Chou-profile-pic-624x874NYSHealth Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation teamed up to support the work of Associate Director of Health Services Research, Chia-Hung “Ed” Chou, as he led the effort to analyze the effectiveness of diabetes prevention programs in community settings.
The recently published findings show that many of the current studies have a small sample size and suffer from attrition. Additionally, little is known about at-risk populations versus those with prediabetes as most studies enroll participants that fit into the latter group.  Current programs also fail to provide details of implementation that would allow transferability to other communities.
Conclusions drawn from this study have major implications for policymakers and suggests the importance of policy becoming more involved in diabetes prevention efforts.
